NEPTUNE RAIDERS
BOWLING CLUB
History of the Neptune Raiders Bowling Club

The Neptune Raiders Bowling Club, formerly known as the Springdale Elementary School Raiders, was formed over 40 years ago. It started with (5) men who bowled in a local bowling league at Shore Lanes, in Asbury Park, NJ as well as in the Bradley Beach bowling league. The men were sponsored by the Springdale Elementary School.
For the first two years these (5) men participated in local tournaments, the Monmouth County Bowling Tournament and the State of NJ National Tournament. They also traveled to the NY National Bowling Tournament but did not have enough bowlers to form a team.
In 1974, Mr. Joe Bennet noticed the image of Poseidon on the Neptune City Shopping Center entrance. This vision sparked the name change from the Springdale Elementary Raiders to the Neptune Raiders Bowling Club with Poseidon as the club emblem.
Mr. James Pierce, President; Mr. Ted Harris, Vice-President; Mr. John Wilson, Treasurer; Mr. Joe Bennett, Business Coordinator and Mr. John Manley, Secretary generated rules and by-laws to set the Standards of Operations and Management. The $5.00 membership fee was used to help with the cost of financing teams in tournaments. They also had fundraisers such as, "Meat on the Table" dances at Fort Monmouth and bus rides to Atlantic City.
For many years the Neptune Raiders was an all male bowling club and in 1999, the Raiders welcomed its first female member named, Ms. Jill Johnson. In 2002 Ms. Carol Monroe became the first female president. Over the next three decades the Neptune Raiders Bowling Club continued to grow in membership as well as supporting veteran organizations, college-bound high school seniors with scholarships, senior citizens, and other community and youth programs.
At the present time , the Neptune Raiders Bowling Club, a non-profit organization, consists of (40) active members (25 men & 15 women); (4) associate members; (20) deceased members and continues to be one of the most productive organizations in the area with primary focus on the community well-being as well as community events.
